Terrestrial Laser scanning

 20. 09. 2007 —   Laser scanning is the most modern method of acquiring the precise documentation of spatially complex objects, like the facades of historical buildings, industrial plants and devices, the construction of underground areas, stoles and tunnels.

Laser scanning represents real revolution in the area of geodesy and photogrammetry. Its appointment allows solving tasks, which would constitute disproportionate costs or would be unfeasible, if performed with the use of classical methods.

Advantages of terrestrial laser scanning

  • High survey speed
  • Accuracy ordinarily 5 - 20 mm
  • Advanced degree of processing automatization
  • Non-contact surveying
  • The possibility of surveying in inaccessible conditions or dangerous runnings
  • Exclusion of possible mistakes compared to classic methods
  • Cost-effective

The laser data can be completed by data acquired via digital camera and thus we can obtain realistic spatial visualisations of surveyd objects as output.

The company GEODIS BRNO uses the following scanners for terrestrial laser scanning – RIEGL LMS-Z360 and Z+F Imager 5600. The advantage of the first is, above all, the high velocity of data collection and the universality of use, the advantage of the second one is very high accuracy. We can combine the advantages of both devices for particular applications and thus offer the most effective solution to the customer. You can find the technical parameters of both devices directly at

Possibilities of use of terrestrial laser scanning

  • Architecture, construction documentation
  • Urbanism, build-up and city area modelling
  • Topography
  • Transportation constructions
  • Tunnels
  • Energetics
  • Industry, piping systems
