Processing of Satellite Photographs

 24. 10. 2007 — Satellite images represent the perfect source of up-to-date information for wide areas. These images contain visible and infrared bands enabling features to be shown and analyzed that cannot be seen in classic photographs We have trained professionals and a fully-automated photgraphic laboratory.

A combination of various bands can be used for vegetation monitoring in agriculture, forestry and ecology; applications for geology, land-use, urbanistic and regional studies can be done as well.

GEODIS BRNO works with data from various systems. As a novelty, we offer the satellite orthophotomap of the whole Czech Republic consisting of nine scenes from the LANDSAT 7 with 7 metre pixel size. This data is the perfect foundation for various applications of regional character. With the combination of controlled and uncontrolled classification and other analytical methods we have created a land-use map.

Follow-up processing of satellite images

For the creation of satellite orthophotmaps, it is necessary to secure the projection plate centres with the aid of analytic aerotriangulation (AAT). Planimetry and altimetry evaluation, edge measuring and DTM creation (digital terrain model) can be performed, if the customer requires it.

Based on the calculated parametres of the spatial coordinates of the plate centres and the DTM, the aerial photography can be orthogonalized (=conversion of the central projection into orthogonal projection).

These orthophotographs represent the basis for the so-called orthophotomosaic, where the images must be colour-processed (radiometrically and photometrically - so-called dodging) before being placed into the mosaic, so that the final product is colour-balanced.

The so-called seamlines are defined in the following phase. Seamlines define those lines, along which the orthorectified photographs are then connected into the form of a mosaic.

The result of the processing are pages of individual orthophotomaps, usually in a large-scale map sheet.
