New Topology Map for Czech Arctic Explorers

19. 02. 2010 — GEODIS BRNO has been involved in creation of a new topographic map of the James Ross island northern part with the scale of 1: 25,000. This custom work has been done in cooperation with the Czech Geological Survey that is actively participating in the research in Antarctica. The map illustrates a part of the Ulu peninsula where the Johan Gregor Mendel Czech base is located.

The basis for creating the map was photogrammetric processing of images acquired by British Antartic Survey (BAS) in 1979 and 2006 as well as images captured by the Royal Navy at 1989. Planimetric/altimetric mapping has been performed for about 225 km2. Topographic names were consulted with Argentineans and British geographers as the map is available in two language versions, English and Spanish. The map has been printed with spot colours by Vojenský topografický ústav in Harmanec.

We believe that this accurate map will mean a considerable aid for our arctic explorers when navigating in the terrain and creating geological maps.
