Geodatabase of the Czech Republic
Geodatabase of the Czech Republic (Geodatabáze ČR – GDB ČR) created by GEODIS BRNO spol. s r. o. in a reference scale 1:5 000 is more than an ordinary GIS database. It is also used as a base dataset for map creation. GEODIS BRNO is focused on the client defined map production, when the customer sets the map contents and layout. All the company´s available data resources are used to create such a map: orthophotomap, terrain and surface model, and a vector database GDB ČR. Customized maps are created, such as orthophotomap with superposed vector layers, maps containing shaded height model or contour lines, town plans, or middle scale wall maps.
In the image, there is a sketch of a wall map in a scale of 1:200 000, containing shaded relief map of the Czech Republic and simplified vector super-layer containing data from the GDB ČR. Such a layout is discussed with the final client in order to reach the optimum balanced map, select appropriate symbology, and map colours. Cartographic works will follow these preparatory works – creation of map key, cartographic representation, and the textual part which respects the cartographic rules, adding more value than automatic text placement for vector layers.
Setting up a customized map is in many aspects much more demanding task than standardized cartographic works. Anyway, it is the way to create maps, which perfectly comply with the client´s requirements and we believe that such maps have incomparable value.
