City of Brno 3D Vizualization
The image for September brings you a detailed 3D textured model of the historical city centre of
Brno, Czech Republic. There is a plenty of good applications for such data display, advanced versions enable
model creation, and basic versions enable model display. This image is displayed in such a freeware version.
Apart from online and offline data display, the applications offer a flight-through, hyperlinks, connection
with multimedia files, addition of designed, but not yet built structures or buildings, or measurement
functions.
The interesting point is that the model in this image is based on aerial images only. No field data
capture was needed, no handheld photography, no field measurement. A digital terrain model and a detailed 3D
city model was measured on aerial images, subsequently, an orthophotomap was added. Façades were taken from
oblique aerial images and inserted into acquired city model.
